Olubankole “Banky W” Wellington is a multitalented Singer and Songwriter, Filmmaker, Businessman and Philanthropist, who has evolved into, arguably, Africa’s most versatile Entertainment and Media Mogul.
Mr Wellington grew up in Lagos, and moved to New York after secondary school, where he then went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the prestigious Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. While still in University, he won numerous talent competitions and created his company, Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E).
In 2008, he moved back to Nigeria and released the “Mr. Capable” and the follow-up “The W Experience” albums; these phenomenally successful albums launched him to fame and success. Banky not only went on to achieve global fame with subsequent albums but he discovered and signed on talents like Wizkid and Skales, amongst others, and helped mold them into tremendously successful superstars.
As an entrepreneur, Banky has spearheaded E.M.E’s evolving into Digital and Influencer Marketing, Advertising, Creative Media Content etc, and has built an impressive Corporate Client list which includes Oando, Redbull, Haven Homes, Budweiser & Ab In Bev, to mention a few. Banky W has also achieved unrivaled success with brand endorsements as an ambassador for global firms like Samsung Mobile, Ciroc Vodka and Uber. He is also the co-owner of one of Nigeria’s fastest growing quick-service restaurant chains, Sooyah Bistro.
As a philanthropist, Banky launched “The Banky Wellington Organization” which has executed a plethora of impactful projects in his community and country, including food banks, medical outreaches, clothing drives and more. His “I am Capable” scholarship fund provided scholarships and assistance for various deserving Nigerian students in Nigeria and globally, and he co-founded the much lauded Lekki Food Bank which has fed well over 100,000 people till date.
He has jointly spearheaded and participated in several notable causes and initiatives, including the #Dream4Naija project with organizations such as USAid and IRI, as well as “Enough is Enough”, LightUpNigeria” and #OccupyNigeria peaceful protests. He has given several inspiring speeches that went viral globally, including his Tedx Talk, and his “Why We Run” speech at the “Not too Young to Run” Candidates Conference in Abuja.
In 2018, Banky Wellington made an inspiring foray into Politics and is currently the PDP’s candidate for Eti Osa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the soon coming elections. Banky is a thought and opinion leader amongst Nigerian youth with a combined social media strength of over 10 million followers.
He is married to A-list superstar, Adesua Etomi-Wellington and they have a beautiful son, both of whom he cites as his greatest blessings.
