Movement-22

“It is possiBle” More than a campaign… this is a movement

“…I’ve learnt that we must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we hope that it should be. We must no longer be content to shout from the sidelines; we must get like-minds into the system to fix it.”

Hon . Olubankole “Banky W” Wellington

With those insightful words, Banky Wellington publicly declared his intention to contest in the 2023 General Elections for the House of Representatives on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The media mogul, entrepreneur and philanthropist had contested once before… in an extremely bold 2019 campaign run that captured the hearts of Nigerians all over the world. He ran what is still considered to be one of the most impressive and inspiring campaigns in Nigerian political history. With no previous political pedigree, and without the backing of any major political party or sponsor, he won in many polling units and wards where it was previously considered unthinkable – especially considering that he was an independent candidate. He gave Nigerian young people who had previously sat out of the political process something to believe in… a rallying point to gather around… he rekindled the hope of a generation, letting us know that it IS possible.

Now he’s back. Armed with the lessons learned from the last go round, the mandate of his community, the support of his Nation, and critically – the major party structure that they previously lacked, Banky is poised to not only pull off a potentially history-defining upset in the next elections, but to also help guide Nigeria’s youth into taking another massive step towards the reform that the Nation’s political system so desperately needs.

This run is so much bigger than Banky. He’s taken the bold step to align with a major political party, the PDP, thereby opening the door for scores of others who have the best interests of the country at heart to do the same. His message is simple – we must insert like-minds into the system, and reform it from within by plugging servant-leaders and reformers into the existing structures. This is much more than a 6 month campaign, it’s the first step in a strategic multi-year plan to reform the political landscape in Lagos (and by extension, Nigeria) by charting a new course that empowers like-minded people with competency, character and credibility, to enter the Lagos PDP’s structure and give us seats at the table of policy-making and candidate-choosing. This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. It starts with this run, and with your support and God’s grace, it will lead him into the National Assembly, and pave the way for an entirely new team within the PDP that will be a force to reckon with in Nigerian Politics for years to come.

As Banky himself said, “if impact is the goal, then we must no longer be content to shout from the sidelines. We must get into the system to fix it. The problems in Nigeria are from the top down, but the solutions are from the bottom up. Some of us must insert ourselves into the major platforms that exist, in order to build an army of like minds who will enter Government with the same agenda – to fix Nigeria one community, one ward, one policy at a time. It is possible.”

Indeed, “it is possiBle”. The plan is strategic, bold, and implementable, but we can’t do it without you. Mainstream politics is incredibly expensive and difficult. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. Please consider this an invitation to do whatever you can to partner with us on this journey.

The only people who ever change the world are the ones crazy enough to believe that they can. Here’s hoping you’re willing to take that step of faith, and make a contribution in cash, or kind, to support this movement.
